Abstract
In this diploma thesis an effort is made to analyze the impact of using renewable energy sources in Greece and generally in the contemporary energy status quo, while taking in regard limitations and threats that emanate from the phenomenon of climate change. Through observing statistical data, charts, diagrams, empirical and theoretical studies an attempt is made to highlight the importance of using renewable energy sources, while future appliances may sparkle the shade of climate change.
Apart from approaching the issue in an economic point of view, this current thesis deals with a socioeconomic phenomenon that besets our country for so many years – it’s called energy poverty and a substantially large part of the population is a victim of that. Due to the economic crisis that our country carries through in the last decade, inequalities have blunted, access to basic resources has declined dramatically and more and more citizens are deprived of basic goods, such as access to safe and cheap energy. Renewable energy sources, as a basic element of bioeconomy, could and should become the mainspring of change and even eradication of this phenomenon.
In the last part, conclusions are presented along with some proposals of what we have to do in order for renewable energy sources to penetrate more efficiently and more drastically in the current energy market.
