Abstract
This dissertation is based on official figures from the Greek Statistical Institute for the study of the economic characteristics of the population of Greece (ELSTAT). The work is divided in 2 key thematic sections: the first refers to a literature review of our subject and the second uses statistical information from official sources to draw conclusions. The first section highlights the different scientific hypotheses relating to the population's composition by age, sex, and age groups. Terms and definitions are presented, along with key population metrics and the mobility by industry and occupations. The Employment Survey is also discussed as a data source along with Greece's economic attributes and characteristics based on the most recent census of 2011. The second part focuses on work and job-related patterns in Greece before, during and after the economic crisis and considers different population characteristics, such as gender, age, urbanity etc, educational level and employment status. We also track the above trends with and without seasonal adjustment. The afterword summarizes the findings of the second part of the project.
