The thesis analyzes the necessity for the development of nuclear power in Greece from a dual standpoint: Firstly, as a necessity for the replacement of lignite fueled power plants operating as baseload with a modern, safe and reliable fuel, while at the same time minimizing the energy dependence of the country. Secondly, as a stepping stone for the development of nuclear know-how with the long term aim of developing a nuclear arsenal which will serve as a balance on geopolitical dangers and restore credible deterrence.
