Following the announcement of Cyprus for the discovery of significant quantities of
hydrocarbons in its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), major changes and controversies
have taken place in the neighboring regions. The discovery of gas is considered by the
Republic of Cyprus as the only solution for its rescue. Cyprus has tried to complete
the puzzle for better handling of this new environment of opportunities and threats,
but unfortunately without success. Greece, which is the most important ally of
Cyprus, lost its political influence and the weight of its influence not only on the
Republic of Cyprus but also on the "chessboard" of the Mediterranean because of its
dramatic current economic conditions. Therefore, Cyprus is looking for a new and
powerful ally to handle this new environment better, and it seems that such an ally
was found in the state of Israel. In the light of economic and modern political
conditions, export options open to the Republic of Cyprus are under consideration: the
construction of a gas pipeline through Turkey, the creation of a common pipeline with
Greece and Israel that will pass through Greece. or to create an energy consortium
with Israel to build a LNG plant in Cyprus. However, a struggle with the Turks for the
Turkish Cypriots has been hampered for several years without an effective solution
between them. As a result, Cyprus has so far not been able to move quickly to enjoy
its hydrocarbons.
