PBL (Problem Based Learning) is an educational strategy that was first applied in medicine and then expanded to many other fields. It is a learning technique in which students acquire essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration or problem solving. For this reason, many mathematics educators who aim to improve students’ performance apply this method to their courses.
As a result, further research is needed to investigate whether this method can yield positive results in the process of solving a problem with a high degree of difficulty that requires beyond mathematics and physics knowledge.
The present study implements a scenario based on the core principles of PBL and the Think-Pair-Share collaborative strategy in a technologically supported MoodleCloud environment with the aim of enhancing collaboration and problem solving. Furthermore, it prevents students of second High School class from acquiring superficial knowledge.
The purpose of this research is the understanding of mathematics over a particular mathematical unit, first-order equations, while linking them to physics. In addition, enables students to understand the significance of mathematics while developing important skills.
To sum up, the results of our study, using a scenario based on the principles of PBL in a technologically supported environment enhances students' co-operation, problem solving, and responsibility skills. Also, the combination of mathematics and physics has been successful and learners have a positive evaluation of their improvement during training.
