This Postgraduate Diploma Thesis has set as a core, the executive functions of Primary Education students during their interaction with the electronic environment "IcaruSTEAM", which is characterized by the innovative STEAM methodology, while the educational scenario follows the principles of Self-Regulating Learning.
One of the main features of e-Learning is that the interactive digital content allows interaction between students and the online environment - either at an individual or collaborative level - while enabling learning on demand. Through implementation of our training scenario in Weebly's electronic environment, the distribution and improvement of information was made directly, and the pupils' interest was largely maintained. Access to content did not require physical presence, except for an activity designed to be performed live (educational robotics).
This is a one-hour e-learning lesson that used the STEAM methodology as an innovation tool, followed by strategies that allowed students to regulate the learning process and adopt the personal way and means of acquiring new knowledge. With use of Web 2.0 tools, an orchestrated scenario based on STEAM methodology and the principles of Self-Regulated Learning was developed, utilizing the Weebly platform, with the aim of developing strategies and means of enhancing executive functions.
The basic subject of the e-course is the knowledge of how to fly planes, which includes concepts that are a cross-thematic approach. Students learn to recognize the goals of each activity, set goals themselves - depending on the level of knowledge and interest they have - while choosing the means of conquering information (video, personal search, reading).
Research data shows that executive functions, due to the wide range of skills, require coordinated strategies and, above all, more time for the subjects to engage and interact with environments characterized by these strategies. Thus, it was logical for the research participants to minimize the level of their executive functions. Also, the IcaruSTEAM online environment was rated as an efficient e-learning course, while at the same time, highlighted the STEAM methodology as an interdisciplinary approach that can be integrated into an online learning environment and contribute to the development of skills.
