Maritime labor convention in shipping industry

The dissertation discusses the issue of Maritime Labour Convention 2006, which with its enforcement sets and protects the rights of the seafarers on board. During the mechanism of enforcement and compliance through the process of inspections and certification of ships by the Flag authority (Flag State Control) as well as through inspection of ships by the port authorities (Port State Control), a ship may be detained for non-compliance and severe infringement with any of the terms of contract. The
present study provides a detailed overview of the seafarer profession, its workplace and of the Organizations that contributed to its need and establishment. Τhen, it examines the content of the Convention, the amendments of code that have been made in the course of time, as well as the way ships are inspected. It finally reaches some interesting conclusions about the most frequent infringements of regulations and results on the effect of this adoption.
