Diabetes is a global health problem as it occurs mainly at the age of 45-60 years and brings a large number of effects to the body such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, hyperlipidemia, hypoglycemic shock, diabetic extremities, etc. Diabetes in addition to health problems also cause great social and economic problems.
At the social level, diabetic individuals are constantly under the control of health scientists and their relatives in terms of keeping their medication and changing their eating habits.
On the other hand, the medical treatment of a large number of diabetics and people suffering from diseases that are the direct effects of diabetes, costs a large amount of money in each country, but also globally, and affects the workforce of that country.
The purpose of this work is to record and analyze data around the world that record the social and economic consequences of diabetes as well as the demographic data for these two components. As well as studying four selected countries, Australia, Poland, the United States of America and Germany, and drawing conclusions on the cost of diabetes in societies but also on these economies, as well as looking for prevention measures.
An analysis of the bibliographic data and data from the study of the 4 countries surveyed with the SWOT method was then carried out to draw conclusions about the economic and social costs of diabetes.
The results showed that diabetes mellitus is equivalent to an uncontrollable increase in the cost of both social and economic costs. While with regard to diabetes prevention, there is strong evidence that investing in the prevention of diabetes, education and care is an effective way to deal with diabetes and its complications.
