The widespread growth of entrepreneurship and the rapid technologic progress have made specialization the key ingredient of the successful enterprise. In order for a company to prevail in its field, it must first of all ensure the quality of the product or service provided, but also, with the utmost immediacy, it must strategically handle, those functions which it cannot fully run effectively with its own resources. All modern research indicates these functions, that most modern businesses appear to be suffering from, have to do with Logistics based mechanisms. This study deals with the process of exploring an effective solution and determining an applicable scientific method to it.
However, in order to fully understand modern business methods, the study is organized in such a manner so that the general principles governing the phenomenon are explained first followed by the specifics of its resolution. Thus, the analysis begins by defining the concepts of the modern Supply Chain and Logistics, while making extensive references to the elements that make up these concepts.
Continuing with the theoretical positioning and clarification of the terms on which this research is based, the concept of outsourcing is outlined. The scope of the analysis is characterized both by the definition of the phenomenon - method, which as we shall see, includes the provision of necessary services by an external (out-of-the-firm) provider, as well as by the procedures for its implementation in combination with the broad analysis of the services provided and their placement within the firm’s supply chain. In order to make the decision making process easier there is an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of using Logistics service providers rather than dealing with the issue using in-house mechanisms.
Specifying to the subject of the research, the Logistics outsourcing stages are analyzed. This analysis encompasses the style that can make successful the whole project and includes in detail the steps from the need analysis, the clarification of the services required to the franchisee-contractor structure as well as the factors that will determine the effectiveness of the current cooperation.
Having set the full academic background but also to further draw conclusions, two typical case studies are listed. Their structure and development is based on the objective assessment of the effectiveness of the method under consideration.
In conclusion to this study, there is a reference to the current trends in the Logistics outsourcing industry and their analysis, with a conclusive view of the events that characterize them.
