Abstract
Over the last ten years our country has faced a tremendously difficult period which seems now to be coming to an end. The global economic crisis affect also the Greek economy not only with financial consequences but also with many social implications in all areas of society. The consequences may be huge but there are certain preventive measures which can help to improve the financial situation and restrict its spread.
An aspect of major interest that should be taken into account is the multifaceted nature of economic crises which can evolve over time into different forms and can also cause problems in a humanitarian level, mainly in vulnerable society groups. This situation had a huge impact on the business world in general but mainly on small and medium-sized enterprises which constitute the largest percentage of Greek enterprises. Each individual business adopted different crisis mitigation measures, the ones deemed appropriate to their reality and their financial difficulties. Some businesses though opted for a complete shutdown. These strategies will be presented in this research.
In first chapter we refer to the characteristics of an economic recession and its causes, in second chapter we present the condition of small medium-sized enterprises in Greece and the difficulties that they faced in this period, in third chapter we analyse the process of the research and the statistical analysis program which we apply to export the results. Chapter four focuses on the presentation of the previous results through diagrams and the description of it. The last chapter aim to approach an alternative suggestion and ways on how the enterprises can face this crucial period more effectively and creatively.
