The current thesis aims to analyze the ocean economy in the view of 2030. The study is bibliographic and the methodology followed in the dissertation is based on researches of International Organizations, scientists’ official references and the published legislative framework.
More specifically, the study begins with the analysis of the basic macroeconomic factors and their estimated consequences to the ocean economy. The worldwide trends of these parameters are in line with forecasts concerning the period from 2030 up until to 2060.
The actions of United Nations Organization (U.N.O) referring to the International Law of the Sea and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are presented in the second chapter. At the same time, the 14th SDG, which concerns life in the water, is highlighted and analyzed further.
The next chapter focuses on the efforts of European Union (E.U.) in order to fully align itself with the U.N.O guidelines and presents the measurements that the union has already adopted and future actions expected to be taken.
The fourth chapter brings into focus the 1st Sustainable Blue Economy Conference, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, and is concerned with topics regarding the creation of economic growth that is inclusive and sustainable, the assurance of healthy and productive waters and the building of safe and resilient communities.
Finally, the study contains a brief summary with the emerged concluding points and demonstrates preventive measurements that need to be taken into consideration by all concerned parties in order to ensure better management practices for the marine resources.
