The purpose of this thesis is to examine the vertical relationships between businesses and the economic policies applied to regulate them. In particular, the advantages and disadvantages of vertical integration and vertical constraints are analyzed and how they affect the producer, the buyer and the final consumer. In addition, there is a historical overview of economic theories on vertical relations from 1776 to the present, with particular emphasis on the Chicago School theory and the anti-competitive behavior of businesses. Furthermore, the model of Rasmussen et al. and comparing it with the model of Segal & Whinston examining exclusivity contracts, how they can exclude the entry of a potential new entrant. Additionally, there is reference to legislation in both the European Union and the US and, secondly, to Greece's failure to comply with the competition rules set by businesses. Finally, it was analyzed a case involving Microsoft and how it did so by excluding competing companies, thereby creating an unnatural monopoly as well as the attitude of justice in this case and the restraints, it placed on the company to correct its anti-competitive policy.
