Abstract

During the recent decades, logistics have become of extreme importance for companies' supply chains. At the same time, their environmentally friendly "green" operations have been urgently needed for the reduction of their negative consequences. For the protection of the environment and societies governments have created the relevant regulatory frameworks that address the multiple aspects of logistics. Furthermore, companies implement measures that reduce resource consumption and minimize pollutants from their products' transportation and storage processes, both on their way to the end consumer and vice versa. The attitude of multinationals can be considered of great importance. Because of their capacity, these companies can increasingly apply the social responsibility model. This, among other aspects of the companies, applies on the design and implementation of logistics processes, with the aim of reducing the environmental impact, towards sustainable development.
