Abstract

Healthcare is a complex and versatile machine whose role is to offer care for the human. Because of the anthropocentric nature of the service provided, the scientific area is called upon to efficiently combine the factors that make up the health sector for the benefit of both citizens and healthcare providers. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the operation of the supply chain and the procurement administration mainly in the Public Health Sector, to investigate the process and its results and to propose solutions to issues that need to be improved. The main objective is to highlight the significance of costs to and for all involved and to identify a beneficial way of reducing both the costs of the provision of health services individually but also through the improvement of the supply chain process. More specifically, through the bibliographic review, a presentation of hospital practices in the field of procurement is presented, the legislative framework applied, material management and the results of the tactics followed are presented. The bibliographic review highlights the need for process optimization by illuminating aspects such as outsourcing and the issue of e-procurement, which concludes the need for training and specialization of staff, the maintenance of long-lasting and stable relationships with suppliers as well as the flexibility of synchronization with new methods proposed by the development of technology. The findings create a combination of stable relationships and vigilance of new data, which is applied to business needs is key to maximizing cost-effectiveness of the supply chain process.
