The modern way of living along with the increasing complexity of situations that human beings face in their interpersonal, financial and social relations and interactions, which have occurred as an outcome of the economic crisis as well as the moral decline, have turned humans’ training on how to manage anxiety and how to deal with such disorders into an urgent and pressing need. It is the economic and political uncertainty in conjunction with the social conflicts, the generalized panic and the lack of confidence in human relations that provoke this particular “toxic” vicious circle of anxiety which –unfortunately- lasts for a long period of time.
It is not hard to find studies which aim at the decrement of anxiety levels through Philosophical Counselling in addition to a wide variety of e-seminars which aim at the self-improvement of the participants. Upon our knowledge, the current thesis is the first which tries to combine a method of philosophical counselling with an educational method, digitally.
Therefore, the primary purpose of the current thesis lies in the implementation, the development and the evaluation of an electronic seminar of Philosophical Counselling based on the Project Based Learning theory (PBL), combined with the philosophical strategy PEACE, through an e-seminar with "anxiety" as its topic. On the above intention, it was examined the educational potential of the scenario over the educational methodology, the difficulty of the activities and the quality of collaboration. It is also examined the alteration of anxiety levels of the participant before and after the aforementioned seminar as long as the impact of the time, participants devoted to the seminar, had to the alteration of anxiety levels.
The research thesis is based on a bibliographic review of Philosophical Counseling, both in terms of its philosophy and application and taking into account the role of the Stoics in its development. It also endeavors to demonstrate the term’s difference from psychoanalysis. Lastly, a lot of attention was given to the theoretical basis of not only the philosophical practice PEACE, but also the Project Based Learning teaching model, both of which were used as the main research tools.
Taking into consideration the quantitative investigation of anxiety’s variation for those that participated in the seminar, a pre- and post-seminar was conducted. The aforementioned seminar involved the measurement of the levels of anxiety and its relation to the time, participants devoted to it. At the same time, in light of the qualitative evaluation of the methodology PrBL, the data collected were scrutinized in order to assess the workflow, the difficulty and the quality of collaboration. Finally, a descriptive statistical analysis of the total data collection was attempted, both from the questionnaires that was given as well as from the log-files of the seminar’s website.
Taking into account the research data collected and the statistical analysis that followed, the workflow was evaluated as “good” form participants themselves, whereas the difficulty of the activities was evaluated as “moderate” and collaborations' quality was evaluated as "good". Furthermore, the statistical criteria which were used demonstrated that there is hardly a doubt that there was a statistically significant reduction of anxiety among those who attended the seminar, and indeed there was a proportional relation between the time spent on the seminar and the anxiety reduction of each individual participant.
