Abstract

The subject of this dissertation is the development of a user interface framework for the world wide web. This framework should meet the expectations of user interface design principles as best as possible and offer the best possible user experience, without being too complex for the framework administrators. We first introduce user interface design principles and, based on those, we describe in detail the developed user interface framework, the specific design decisions that led to its implementation and its functionality of each of the user interface elements. Afterwards, we describe the documentation and support material, as well as the administrative tools that we developed. Having described the user interface framework, we proceed to compare it with two similar software packages for the world wide web, specifically Bootstrap and Picnic CSS. These software packages were chosen based on their similarity and their number of users, while the comparison itself is useful in evaluating the framework, its implementation and its relative usefulness based on the average user of this specific environment. Finally, we present an overview of the project, the conclusions that we have reached, as well as suggestions for further improvement.
