Abstract

This diploma thesis will attempt to capture the latest developments on European and national level regarding management of ship solid and liquid waste and cargo residues. Both the relevant European Conventions and Guidelines and the Greek legislation will be analyzed and the Greek side's progress towards compliance with the relevant legislation will be assessed. Moreover, this thesis will aim to analyze strict regulatory frameworks aimed at protecting the marine environment as well as to whether alternative models for the organization of Piraeus port could be proposed for more efficient waste management.
