Abstract

It is a fact that the shaping of the terms for Laytime and Demurrage to a charter party can play a decisive role in the competitiveness of the companies. Demurrages are an important part of the total turnover of the Oil Tanker Voyage Charter and for this reason it is very important to define who, when and how much they charge. In this diploma thesis, an attempt is made to demarcate the terms of Laytime and Demurrage with a detailed description of the individual elements that characterize them in order to make an in-depth understanding of their terms and functions and show that from their efficient management, companies can acquire competitive advantage through the implementation of their strategy. In conclusion, it is proven that the proper management of Demurrages by ship owners and charterers can bring profit and provide a competitive advantage for companies investing in this direction.
