Abstract
This thesis presents concession contracts in the port industry focusing on the selection criteria and specifications referring to their conclusion. The above-mentioned criteria are linked to the final contractors and to what extent they affect concentration of capital not only in the port sector but mainly in the door to door transportation of cargoes.
First goes the theoretical part, analyzing the reasons that led to private sector’s involvement in ports. The reader becomes also familiar with the concept of concessions and their categories in the port industry.
The case study follows, where a tangible example is given to improve understanding of the thesis. Specifically, selection criteria for concessions of container terminals in some selected European ports, as well as the final contractors are illustrated. On the basis of possible alliances or contractors’ field of activities, conclusions are drawn whether the criteria have actually influenced concentration and door to door transport.
