In the current research we have dealt with an issue that is very critical within the medical community, the quality of life of patients with cancer. Specifically, we focused on patients with hematological malignancies, who completed three different quality-of-life questionnaires, FACT-G, SF-36 and QLQ-C30, along with some demographics. Our objective was to investigate the factors that affect each scale and the way it scores, as well as how each one links with the other.
Our sample consisted of 67 patients, and both parametric and non-parametric tests were used. Specifically, the Chi-Square Pearson test, multiple linear regressions and the Cronbach Alpha Index were applied. Comparisons were also made among these three quality of life scales. Furthermore, another sample of patients was used to compare the FACT-G scale with its counterpart. This group of patients had cancer in other parts of the body and had already completed their second chemotherapy.
The main conclusions are related to the comparison of the three scales, their degree of correlation and the way they are scaled. Also, the demographic factors associated with each scale were studied. Finally, the quality of life of patients was compared with some other forms of cancer.
