The elaboration of this thesis deals with the issue of Foreign Direct Investment in Balkan region making a more extensive analysis of Foreign Direct Investment in Romania.
Initially, some basic concepts of Foreign Direct Investment will be presented in order to make it easier to understand both their significance and their contribution to the economy of both the investing country and the recipient country.
We will then proceed to present some basic characteristics of the Balkans and Balkan countries that concern mainly historical and demographic characteristics while we will analyze the geographical position of the Balkan countries and its significance. A further reference will be made to the difficulties encountered by Greek investments in the Balkans and we will quote a swot analysis of the Balkan region.
Then there will be a reference to some key features concerning the country of Romania. while at the same time a presentation of the course of the country's macroeconomic aggregates will be carried out and, in particular, at a depth of 12 years, growth will be analyzed, GDP at current prices, GDP headline, inflation, unemployment and Foreign Direct Investment.
Furthermore there will follow an empirical analysis to develop an econometric model which will consist of 7 independent variables in total. The figures will have the form of Panel Data and the processing will be carried out with the help of the econometric SPSS17 Program.
Finally, the results will be interpreted and generated from the processing of data and followed by the recording of the conclusions arising from the conduct of this investigation.
