Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the literature on blogs in the area of health counseling and then based on the information gathered to develop and evaluate a blog for the care of premature newborns. In this context, the first part of the literature review focuses on the definition and purpose of blogs, how they evolved as a phenomenon over the last two decades, what appears to be their future, their characteristics, especially as one form of urban journalism and interaction, their genres and categories, the profile of their authors and readers, and finally their credibility. The literature subsequently focuses on blogs in the area of health counseling, their impact and effects on readers and writers, how one can author a blog in the area of health counseling, and the limitations that these blogs have. Finally, the literature review presents information for the care of premature newborns, the role of parents, and the various parameters that they need to take into account.
The second part focuses on the presentation of Greek and international blogs that aim to support the care of premature newborns, instructions and conditions for the design of a blog, the purpose, the appearance and structure and the basic categories of the blog My Sunny Babies, which created for this research, and how to promote and advertise it. Information related to the evaluation method of the blog, focuses on the research rationale, the methodology, the sample, the research tool and the statistical analysis that was undertaken.
The evaluation survey showed that the blog My Sunny Babies is an effective blog with respect to ease of use and functionality, quality of information and quality of interaction. In addition, the overall evaluation of the blog by the participant scientific experts and the readers was at the levels of the very satisfactory. The main advantage of the blog was considered the relevant and related content, while participants consider that the blog is not yet widely known, which however reflects its short life.
