The term pharmaceutical industry actually appeared in the early 20th century with the manufacture and prosperity of aspirin from Bayer Company. Since the pharmaceutical industry is based essentially on the discovery of new drugs, improve the mode of administration, packaging and of course in advertising and sales networks.
The discoveries of the last decade in the fields of biotechnology biology of widows and IT have radically changed the research and development process in the pharmaceuticals sector. Since its accidental discovery by general observations and studies of natural products and the slow growth in traditional chemistry and biology we have now moved into the era of systematic study of drug targets and bioactive chemical structures.
In Greece, the pharmaceutical industry, although several years of history, is not operating as it should. Today however, there is the scientific knowledge and expertise in our country that can support the development of the Greek pharmaceutical industry. Several universities and research centers engaged in basic research in the drug field with promising results. Also being developed dynamic small biotechnology companies with high scientific training
To be able, however, to ensure the prosperity of the pharmaceutical industry needed to reform the standards, rules and regulations pertaining to them, to make them suitable and safe for the use intended. It is clear, then, that the quality policy is required in the pharmaceutical sector, to build on the compliance of the Quality Management System, customer satisfaction and the effort for continuous improvement.
