This thesis investigates the topic of integrating production and maintenance procedures in a failure-prone manufacturing system. An integrated decision model that coordinates preventive maintenance decisions and production scheduling is proposed. In this model, performed maintenance affects the system’s reliability level. The objective is to maximize the system's manufacturing capacity as a function of the overall operational reliability level of the system. The decision model is naturally formulated as a continuous time stochastic lot-sizing problem. The methodology is based on the use of Monte Carlo simulation which allows to consider various parameters of the system (e.g. failures) that cannot be deterministically defined. In this thesis, a case study is also presented to demonstrate the implementation of the proposed model in an ERP system. In the case study, a practical integrated production and preventive maintenance planning table is used to present the model results.
