Internal combustion engines (ICE) have been widely used for over a century, in many modes of transport and facilities of small, greater or too high power. Of course, in the latter category are ships, which need to combine great power in performance with the lowest fuel consumption and ease of maintenance, as in the seas and oceans there is no luxury of material resources time and the vast human dynamically.
The criteria for the separation of internal exhaust gases are sufficient, as presented in this paper, but in the case of ships, the characteristics that the machines must have are oriented to specific ones.
Next, we analyze the parts of a typical ICE, a description and comparison of the two and four-stroke machines that are challenged by two basic techniques, and an overview of the most important diesel engine systems encountered in ship engine technology.
