Elaborating a bit more to the general title, the aim of this dissertation is to
investigate and apply approaches of experimental design and analysis involving
factors of influence with very specific peculiarities – particular characteristics.
More specifically, we refer to those cases where the tested factors do not change
easily. The respectively designs are frequently used for factorial experiments in
which the nature of the experimental material or the operations involved make it
difficult to handle all factor combinations in the same manner. It may be used when
the treatment levels associated with one of the factors require larger amounts of
experimental material than do treatment levels for other factors . In other words, we
may be unable to completely randomize the order of the runs. This often results in a
generalization of the factorial design called a split-plot design.
This type of experimental design will be studied taking into account the time
factor, with mixed effects models, and will be compared with other design cases such
as fully random designs.
