The purpose of this study is to investigate socioeconomic inequalities in mortality based on retrospective data obtained from the survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), using binary logistic regression models.
Initially, statistics on mortality and the main causes of death in Greece, Europe and the world have been presented, based on Eurostat and the World Health Organization. Subsequently, the dissertation at hand presents socioeconomic factors that seem to affect mortality according to the World Health Organization, followed by information regarding the SHARE survey, the sample and the consecutive waves of data. Special attention has been given to the coding of the variables used in the analysis; then the descriptive statistics of these variables are presented.
Finally, with the aid of binary logistic regression models, interpretations and conclusions have been brought to light, that lead to the observed socioeconomic disparities associated with mortality.
