The present research investigates a field of economics relating to the notion of externality as mirrored through the theories of Pigou and Coase. The dissertation consists of four chapters. The first chapter serves as the introduction to the subject, providing references as well as general data pertinent to it.
The next chapters include a review of literature, referring to the two theories, where examples are presented and final comparisons take place. The dissertation was completed with examples relevant to the subject, assisting to a better understanding of both theorems, according to which final conclusions were drawn.
Through the present research I hope to present a broader image of a salient economic issue (and field) referring to social injustice, the responsibilities of businesses (enterprises) to society. Overall, the focus was on a procedure through which the two theoreticians, each one from their point of view, attempted to perceive the contribution of the state to the confrontation of social actions, while, Coase aimed at rendering this model as fair as possible both for businesses (enterprises) and society as a whole.
