Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment is an important tool in the globalization process, while many view them as an instrument to achieve economic growth. Although there have been a lot of studies focusing on the relationship between these two variables, the results are inconclusive. There are indications supporting that the relationship between the two variables is positive, but there are also others supporting it is negative. The present paper studies the effect of FDI on economic growth using Panel Data from 65 countries, for the time period 1990-2015, using the statistical program Stata 13. Using the right valuation method of fixed effects, we drive to the statistically important conclusion that FDI has a positive effect on economic growth. The positive nature of this relationship is not altered even when defining more criteria (geographical, income, oasa member, 30 biggest exporters) but it is not of equal statistical importance in all cases.
