Abstract

The science of demography has as a main target the statistical analysis of population. Knowing basic population characteristics and measures, various demographic, social-economic indexes and population parameters can be estimated. The main purpose of this work is to estimate the gross and net years of working life and the estimation of the literate life expectancy, for the years 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001, 2011, according to the census population data of ELSTAT. If find that the average length of working life of Greek population, was reduced between 1971 to 2001 for men, while for women an increase has been observed. Also, the Literate Life Expectancy in Greece for the years 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001, for men increased almost six years, and for women more than thirteen years.
