In recent years, due to the global economic crisis, there has been a need for cost containment measures. In the health sector, the cost increases exponentially per year due to a number of factors such as the creation of new healing methods, medicine, increase of life expectancy of the population, etc. It is therefore necessary to apply quality solutions. Healthcare supplies sector is a costly field that is crucial to their functional flow. For most of the procurement procedures there is bureaucracy, which is a cause of errors, a failure to predict needs and one to record stocks. These are some of the disadvantages that burden even more the procurement budget. International standards have shown that handling supplies using modern methods and ICT means, brings significant saving benefits. This post-graduate thesis deals with the investigation of e-procurement in the public health sector. The main purpose is to find out the benefits that arise from the application of e-procurement to public hospitals as well as the attitudes of employees towards them. A case study examines the public hospitals of the Region of Epirus and the answers to the questionnaires and personaly to me are provided by the procurement department staff.
