This master thesis is titled economic crisis and morbidity and consists of six chapters.
The first chapter analyzes the economic crisis, its phases, its causes as well as its effects.
It also analyzes the economic crisis in the United States, Europe and Greece. This chapter
includes statistics on GDP, unemployment and the Balance of Payments in Greece.
The second chapter analyzes the health care system in Greece. It describes its
characteristics, its disadvantages, the types of insurance and the new health reforms
during the economic crisis.
The third chapter includes health indicators and mental health. It also includes the impact
of the economic crisis on citizens' health, health systems and health care in Greece. In
addition, it includes the basic health problems of the Greek population.
The fourth chapter includes morbidity and cardiovascular disease. It describes how the
economic crisis affects cardiovascular disease as well as physical and mental morbidity.
The fifth chapter includes the study in the Hymettus area and how much its citizens’
health has worsened or not, by using statistical methods.
