This master thesis deals with the correlation of two notions of Management, which are
increasingly assuming the interest of modern researchers. More specifically, it deals with the
correlation of workplace happiness and employee engagement. In recent years, these two
concepts are issues of vital importance in the modern business and academic world. Researchers
try to create a model that will be able to fully explain those notions’ applications at the
workplace. Moreover, there is not so far a definition of workplace happiness or employee
engagement, which enjoys universal recognition. Furthermore, it has not been carried out up to
date an empirical research that aims to examine the correlation of these two concepts, for
reason, this study is pioneer. This research is more appropriate than ever, given the conditions
in Greece, due to the financial crisis, which Greeks have been facing since 2008.
For this purpose, an empirical research was conducted as part of this master thesis using a
questionnaire, which was inspired by the existing theories and scientific tools. The
questionnaire was distributed via e-mails, forms and google form to employees of a Financial
Institution in Greece. The findings were quite interesting. It emerged that the Institution's
employees are on average both engaged and happy in their workplace. In addition, a moderate
correlation between the two concepts was found.
The most important finding of this empirical study was that while the employee engagement
was mostly considered as a contributing factor to happiness at work, in this research, was
emerged, based on empirical study, that happiness workplace could be a contributing factor of
employee engagement. The econometric analysis showed that there is a relationship between
them.
In conclusion, this study emphasizes the need for additional research of these concepts.
