The purpose of this thesis is studying and analyzing the so far exercised Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices, their strategic planning and their implementation in the port industry. The aim was constructing a general model regarding the undertaking of social initiatives from the Greek passenger ports and terminals, giving particular emphasis on those active in the cruise sector. The reason for selecting this sector is its direct connection with the main component of the Greek GDP -tourism- and the potential role the abovementioned ports can play in the Greek GDP growth through proper selection and implementation of CSR initiatives. This way they can achieve economic benefits both for themselves and the local and national economy and last but not least contribute in resolving effectively crucial social and environmental problems that concern the communities they serve.
