View/ Open
Abstract
This Thesis’ primary target is to describe the clinical research activity in Greece and its economic outcomes. The 1st chapter goes back to the history of clinical research and introduces us to the main categories of clinical trials as well as the concept of clinical study conduct. The 2nd chapter aims to describe the regulatory and legislative framework in which the clinical research is conducted in a global, a European and a national level. It also provides historical data of the Code of Ethics evolution throughout the 20th century. The 3rd chapter focuses on the economic outcomes of clinical trials, as they are reflected on all involved parties while citing the public sectors in need of a reform, equal to the rapid development of clinical research. The final chapter of this Thesis revolves around the clinical trials initiated in Greece from 2013 to 2014, solely funded by pharmaceutical companies, in an effort to capture the country’s clinical research activity in real-time.
