Pricing of telecommunication services
Telecommunications is one of the most important sectors of the economy of a country, where growth is occurring rapidly and competition between companies is continuous and unabated. Telecommunications companies are seeking for a constant evolution of the offered services to render them more attractive to their consumers but also to ensure their profitability and hence their viability. The pricing policy of a telecommunications company plays an important role in the proper functioning of the company, as services and goods price fixing significantly affects the competitiveness against other telecommunications companies. Both European and international level changes adopted in the telecommunications sector brought many changes for the benefit of the consumer. The full liberalization of telecommunications markets and the concurrent privatization of the former public telecommunications organizations have encouraged the entrance of new companies in the telecommunication market, which led to the provision of services at competitive prices. This thesis deals with the pricing methods used by telecom companies for price fixing of different services offered by their fixed and mobile networks. The thesis originally refers to the legal framework for telecommunications both at Greek and European level. Then, we present the current state-of-the-art technologies of fixed and mobile telecommunications and the corresponding provider companies in the Greek domain. Finally, important pricing concepts pricing methods used by companies to determine the correct price of their services are presented. The thesis is concluded by presenting a simplified scenario for service price fixing of a telecommunication company.
