This thesis is an initial attempt to investigate whether the Greek shipping companies are adopting ethical business practices as part of their general strategy. It also, examines the benefits arising from the implementation of these practices and investigates the reasons for non-implementation. The analysis begins by presenting the way in which companies set their strategic objectives so as to be aligned with their internal and external environment and to achieve concrete results. Furthermore, we analyze how companies perceive the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility, and the benefits arising from the implementation for the various interest groups. In order to investigate the primary purpose of this study, a detailed research in the form of a questionnaire was conducted, taking as examples six Greek shipping companies so as to determine the degree of integration of Corporate Social Responsibility practices and the adoption of non-mandatory standards.
