In the present paper we study the air and coastal passenger transport service between Greece and Italy. We focus on the main ports and airports of two countries and analyse their connection and movement patterns, showing the close relations between the two neighbouring countries. Furthermore, we have conducted on-the-spot research in Patras’ harbour in order to acquire the opinion of passengers concerning the coastal connection of Patras harbour with the harbours of Italy. Through the comparison and analysis of specific arrival and departure data from and to the most important Greek and Italian airports and harbours, we investigate the different passenger movement rate that occurs throughout the years. Finally, we conclude that competition focuses between the different coastal companies, and not between the two different types of means of transport examined; ships and planes. This happens because the costal transport market and the airline market are very different. As they have not got any common characteristics, no competition between them can exist.
