It is widely known that Microsoft Excel® can be used to carry out statistical analysis of data. However, what the majority ignores is the fact that it constitutes an extremely useful and flexible instructive tool. This paper proposes the use of Excel for the teaching of introductory statistics in the secondary education. Therefore, a number of pre-built Excel workbooks is presented as a plan of an experimental course. Moreover, we present and evaluate the results of a case study, in line with the trend for introduction and use of computer for teaching statistics. The purpose of this proposal is to display the advantages of using Excel for teaching introductory statistics, as well as to encourage other teachers to experiment with their own demonstrations and ideas.
