Η εκπαίδευση ως μέσο πρόληψης φαινομένων ριζοσπαστικοποίησης και εξτρεμισμού
The phenomena of extremism and radicalization have been a great concern for the global and European community in recent years both because of the large number of terrorist attacks that have occurred, leaving behind many victims, but also because of the rise of extreme right-wing parties and of the rise of extreme political ideologies that have found many supporters. These events have highlighted the issue of the prevention of extremist and radical attitudes in order to make sure that there will be no further steps towards greater expressions of violence, especially among young people who are the immediate targets of joining extremist organizations. In this context, Education can be a valuable tool in the hands of governments, policymakers and educators in order to prevent radicalization and violent extremism of young people and contribute to the development of critical thinking citizens, able to build strong and peaceful societies and safeguarding the values of democracy, freedom of speech and respect for all kinds of diversity. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the role that the education sector can play in the prevention of youth extremism and radicalization and how Education can have a compensatory function, having understood first of all the nature and context of the phenomena. Furthermore, emphasis is given to the investigation of the action of three international organizations on the use of Education as a means of preventing extremism and radicalization in order to determine the approach and the tools they use in order to promote this policy area in their member states.
