The thesis presents the development and construction of a Web-Based Adaptive System of teaching basic concepts in the Library and Information Science. We focus on the creation and development of authority records according to MARC21 and RDA Standards. The development of this program aims at a self-paced, in-house & continuous training of librarians in new standards and concepts during work. Trainees who enroll in the system can study the subject, which is organized into thematic units and chapters. The monitoring and study of each thematic unit is considered complete if the trainee has successful results in the self-assessment tests that exist in each chapter as well as in the final. The system adapts the presentation after student's choice, displaying theory or examples as the first study object. The trainee's profile is updated through its interactions with the system during sessions, monitoring its cognitive level and its evolution, and providing feedback. An authoring tool is provided to the instructors for the creation of the thematic units and a user friendly environment. The system provides statistics for trainees and thematic units. Finally, multimedia are used which, combined with the learning theories and the design principles of an educational software, offer a user friendly and attractive environment.
