The crowdfunding is a fundraising practice that has begun to grow rapidly in recent years with the advancement of technology and, above all, through the creation of social networks. At the same time, the 2008 financial crisis at international level has limited the funds available to businesses, especially those that are smaller, so that more and more individuals and organizations resort to seeking financial support from the crowd in order to be able to carry out business plans. This paper initially reviews the concept of crowdfunding internationally, it refers to the way it works, as well as to the latest developments, and briefly describes the prevailing situation in Greece on this issue. In addition, the concept of start-ups, their contribution to the economy, and the possibilities for their financing are presented. Then, empirical research follows, in order to ascertain the current situation with regard to the future prospects of the crowdfunding sector in Greece. The industry in which research is selected is the IT and New Technologies sector, given that it is a highly dynamic industry with significant growth potential.
